16-18th October 2013, DTU, Copenhagen
BioMedBridges and ELIXIR hosted a 3 day meetup in Copenhagen to acquire input into the Tools Registry they are developing. The Tools Registry motivation is to aid bioinformaticians in tool discovery, comparison and usage. The site will aggregate listings of software from various sources. These softwares will include things such as web services, databases, workflows and scripts. BioCatalogue will be one of these sources and so a presentation was asked to be given to show the capabilities of the system and the service meta data model. The Tools Registry uses the EDAM ontology to annotate tools and so one suggestion from Jon Ison was to integrate the EDAM ontology with BioCatalogue. Another presentation in the meetup was the advocacy of using BioXSD as the standard for sharing tool metadata.
The group also gave a critique of BioCatalogue, the suggestions of which can be found under the ‘BioCatalogue’ sheet in this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlygK-bTD2KndDdzdm16M2R6VTJPZEZBZGJTNnJwT3c&usp=sharing).
