The Result Perspective enables you to monitor workflow runs and view intermediate and final workflow results.

The Result Perspective contains:

  • A list of previous runs
  • Interactive workflow diagram for the currently selected workflow run
  • Interactive progress report for the workflow run
  • Current state of the workflow run
  • Workflow (and intermediate) results

Previous Runs

Lists all previous workflow runs. The date and the time the workflow run is shown next to the workflow name.

Graph

Contains an interactive workflow diagram of the currently running workflow.

The graph is interactive - you can click on any service in the workflow diagram to see its intermediate inputs/outputs values in the Results view below. By clicking anywhere on the white canvas the Results view switches to workflow inputs/outputs.

You can only view intermediate results if your workflow is running with provenance gathering switched on.

Progress Report

Contains an interactive and dynamically updated tabular progress report for the currently running workflow. It contains progress information for the overall workflow as well as individual services contained in the workflow. The monitored parameters include:

  • Status: the current status of the overall workflow or a service inside the workflow (e.g. Running, Finished, Pending, etc.)
  • Queued iterations: the number of times the service is scheduled to be invoked, at a given time (not applicable for the workflow)
  • Iterations done: the number of times the service has been invoked so far (not applicable for the workflow)
  • Iterations w/errors: Tthe number of service invocations that resulted in/contained an error (not applicable for the workflow)
  • Average time/iteration: Average time it took for a service invocation or for the workflow
  • First iteration started: the time the first invocation of a service started or the start time of the workflow
  • Last iteration ended: the time the last service iteration ended or the end time of the workflow

The progress table is interactive - you can click on any service row in the table to see that service's intermediate inputs/outputs values in the Results view below. By clicking on the workflow (the first row in the table) the Results view switches to workflow inputs/outputs.

You can only view intermediate results if your workflow is running with provenance gathering switched on.

Workflow Run State

Indicates the current state of a workflow run - running, paused, cancelled or finished.

Workflow Inputs and Outputs

Workflow inputs used to run a workflow and the outputs of a workflow run are each presented in a different tab.

Workflow Results

Shows an individual data item on a currently selected input or output port. The value is rendered according to its MIME type, e.g. plain text, XML, HTML, image, binary data, etc.

While workflow is still running, you may look at the results of services that have already finished executing. By clicking the service in the diagram the Workflow Results will switch to intermediate results for the selected service and its input and output values will be shown. If you want to switch back to viewing the workflow results, either click the Show workflow results button or just simply click anywhere on the white canvas of the graph.
