Service display

Service display specifies how the services within a newly opened or created workflow will be displayed

  • with just their name
  • with their name and their ports shown
  • as circles without the name or ports

For more details see the Workflow Diagram.

You can change how Taverna (by default) shows services:

  1. Open the Preferences pop up window.
  2. Select Diagram.
  3. Click the circle to the left of the service display option you want.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Close the Preferences pop up window.

Changing the service display option only affects the display of services in workflows that you open or create after you apply the option.  It does not affect workflows that are already open.  Changes to the service display in already opened workflows can be done in the Workflow Diagram.

Diagram alignment

Diagram alignment specifies how a newly created or opened workflow will be displayed

  • Vertical with the workflow input ports at the top and the output ports at the bottom
  • Horizontal with the workflow input ports on the left and the output ports on the right

For more details see the Workflow Diagram.

You can change how Taverna (by default) shows workflows:

  1. Open the Preferences pop up window.
  2. Select Diagram.
  3. Click the circle to the left of the diagram alignment option you want.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Close the Preferences pop up window.

Changing the diagram alignment option only affects the display of workflows that you open or create after you apply the option.  It does not affect workflows that are already open.  Changes to the diagram alignment in already opened workflows can be done in the Workflow Diagram.

Enable animation

Enable animation specifies how Taverna will show changes to a workflow. It applies to all workflows, including those currently open.

  • Enable animation makes the changes be shown animated e.g. you can see the diagram move around when you add a new service. The decision to enable animation depends upon your preferred experience.
  • Animation speed controls how quickly the animation (if enabled) happens. A slow animation can be useful for explaining the changes that you make, or for producing videos. A fast animation is useful for quick visual indication of what has changed. The default animation speed is suitable for most users.

You can change how Taverna animates workflow changes:

  1. Open the Preferences pop up window.
  2. Select Diagram.
  3. Tick/untick the Enable animation box.
  4. If you have enabled animation, you can move the Animation speed slider to speed up or slow down animation.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Close the Preferences pop up window.

If you click Help then you will obtain help on this dialog. Reset resets the values to the last applied values. Apply takes the shown values and applies them to Taverna.
