If you want to uninstall a version of Taverna, the procedure depends on your operating system and how you originally installed Taverna.

Deleting user preferences

Note that the OS-specific instructions below does not delete Taverna user preferences and any workflow data stored in your Taverna home directory.

If you reinstall the same version of Taverna, it will pick up the same preferences and settings, and so would not resolve problems like the wrong proxy settings. Normally the Taverna installation folder is treated as if it was read-only, and would not have changed since installation.

If you have been running with the database preference enabled, the home directory might be of a considerable size, and you might also want to delete this before uninstalling Taverna.

  • Start Taverna Workbench
  • From within Taverna, select Advanced -> Show data and logs folder
  • Quit Taverna Workbench (to avoid locking of files and data corruption)
  • Delete the full content of the folder, ie. folders like conf, t2-database, etc.

If you have already uninstalled Taverna, or Taverna won't start, see Taverna home directory for details on how to locate this folder manually.

If you have been running the standalone Taverna command line tool, you will also need to locate the folder in the same way, except it will be called taverna-cmd-2.3.0.

Uninstall after using Windows installer

To uninstall Taverna on Windows, given that you originally installed using the Installer, then select "Uninstall Taverna" from the "Taverna 2.3" Start menu.

Alternatively select Taverna 2.3 and click Uninstall from the standard "Programs and Features" menu in Windows.

A wizard should then help you uninstall. Essentially it deletes the Taverna Workbench 2.3.0 folder from C:\Program Files (or equivalent) and the Taverna Start Menu items.

Uninstall after Windows self-extracting archive

If you installed Taverna by using the self-extracting archive, then simply delete the folder containing taverna.exe and taverna-debug.bat.

Uninstall from Mac OS X

Drag the Taverna application to the Trash can from the installed folder (not from the dock).

Normally you will have installed the Taverna application in /Applications folder which should be accessible from Finder.

If you are not sure where you installed Taverna, control or right click on the Taverna icon on the Dock and select Options -> Show in Finder. The Taverna application should be highlighted in its current location.

Make sure you have Quit Taverna first.

Then in Finder, select File -> Move to Trash or drag the Taverna application to the Trash can.

Deleting Taverna installation disk image

If for some reason you are running Taverna from the original installation disk image (note that this is not recommended), this is mounted read-only, and dragging the application to Trash will fail.

You will instead need to Eject this image and delete the downloaded disk image file. To reveal the location of the disk image, start Disk Utility from Applications/Utillities, and you should find taverna-workbench-2.3.0.dmg (or similar) on the left. Right click to Eject disk image, and then again to Reveal in Finder - from here you can delete the disk image file.

Uninstall from Linux

Delete the folder containing the shell script. You can do this in the normal file browser, or on the terminal using rm -rf:

If you have added this folder to your PATH and don't remember where it is, try type in a terminal:

In some cases you might need to follow the symlinks to find the installation folder using readlink or ls -l:
